Out and About

The most northern of the Auvergne departments is Allier. Known for its diverse landscape - Forest of Tronçais, the largest oak plantation in Europe in the northeast, vineyards of Saint-Pourcinois at its centre.

The Sioule gorges to the south and the Bourbonnaise Mountains to the southeast reach heights of 1287m in the Puy de Montoncel.

The Allier is the most productive agricultural area of the Auvergne The region is very unspoilt and retains its distinct French character. Traffic is light, traffic jams something you leave behind!

Small local markets are very traditional where people come to enjoy the local atmosphere and to buy fresh local produce

Gites Les Gigard are situated in the commune of Cindre, nestling down a rural country lane in the area of Bourbonnais region of France. A very agricultural area with fields of sunflowers, maize, wheat and pastures for Charolais cattle.

We are of equal distance, only 25 minutes drive, to the historic departmental capital town of Moulins, seat of the Bourbon Dukes in the 10th century, and the ever popular spa town of Vichy with its parks and water sports.
